Brief description of study
What is this study about?
The purpose of this study is to learn more about ways to measure how fast our brains process information. We also want to see how these measures are related to other aspects of how our brain works and how we interact with others. We will compare samples of normal-hearing participants to participants
with cochlear implants (CIs) in order to validate measures and test
associations in these two populations.
Who can take part?
We are enrolling English-speaking adults ages 18 – 29 with normal hearing (controls) or those with hearing loss and use a cochlear implant.
Detailed description of study
What will happen during study participation?
- Attend a single study visit (2-3 hrs) at Riley Hospital (Riley Research building) in Indianapolis, IN
- We will ask participants to complete questionnaires about things like hearing, language, learning, thinking, memory, and behavior.
- Participants will also work with a researcher to complete some tasks and tests that measure how their brain processes information.
- If we are not able to complete all the tasks in one visit, you may be able to come back to finish at another visit.
Incentive/Compensation
- Participants will be paid $20/hour for total time of the study visit plus time in round-trip travel. Payment will be in the form of a check mailed to their home from IU.
