Brief description of study
This is an observational prospective study and a
retrospective study. For the prospective study, the clinical data and blood
sample will be collected in accordance with standard procedure currently used
in patient care at our institutions. For the retrospective study, patients
requiring acute dialysis in the pediatric ICU and CVICU the last 5 years (2017-2021)
will be collected.
Detailed description of study
Once identified the attending physician will be treating the
selected cohort according to the standards of care and evidence-based medicine,
including need of antibiotics, pressors, intubation, IV fluids and all other
life saving measures. Once patient is stabilized only then will family be
approached for consent for study. Informed consent will be obtained from legal
guardians of the subjects. If subject able to assent will obtain assent as well
(>8 years).
For both the prospective and retrospective study arms, we
will be collecting data for every subject until they are off RRT or until
discharge whichever occurs first. Data that will be collected includes
demographic, laboratory, medication and fluid balance from the electronic
medical record.
