Overview
Have you tested positive for COVID-19 in the past year (since February 2021)?
Researchers at Indiana University School of Medicine are looking for adults to take part in a study examining nervous system activity in people who have had a recent COVID-19 infection.
The purpose of this study is to o observe the effect of COVID 19 on the vagus nerve signals, which is largely an internal nerve that controls stomach function. Your participation will help researchers to gain knowledge that could lead to advancements in medical treatment for patients with nausea and vomiting and disordered stomach function.
Description
Who is Eligible
- Adults who are 18-80 years of age (if female, must not be pregnant)
- Must have tested positive for Covid-19 in the past year (since February 2021)**
- Must not have been diagnosed with any re-ocurring GI conditions or symptoms prior to Covid infection such as GERD, IBS, IBC, or Gastroparesis
**If you have tested negative after recovery from COVID 19 but are still experiencing symptoms, then you may still qualify for the study
What is Involved
- Attend a study visit (60 minutes or less) to University Hospital in which you will have fasted prior to your appointment.
- You will be asked to drink a cup of water and ECG electrodes will be placed on your abdomen to measure the electrical activity of your stomach.
Compensation
- You will be compensated $50 (in the form of a gift card) and parking will be provided for each study visit.
