ATTENTION KIDS AND PARENTS! Children Needed for Exercise and Brain Function Study!

Overview

DO YOU HAVE A CHILD 8-10 YEARS OF AGE or DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO HAS A CHILD AGE 8-10?

Researchers from the Department of Health and Kinesiology at Purdue University are looking for children to take part in a study on how exercise may influence thinking and brain function.

Your child's participation will help researchers learn more about the relationship between exercise and human thinking.

Description

Who is Eligible
  • Children who are 8-10 years of age
  • Speak/understand English as primary language
  • No disability that prevents cognitive and exercise testing
  • Normal or corrected-to-normal vision
  • Must not be taking any type of anti-psychotic, anti-depressant, anti-anxiety medications or any medications used to treat ADD/ADHD
  • Must be willing to travel to Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN for study visits
What is Involved
2 in-person study visits at Purdue University campus (6 hrs total):
  • Visit #1 (approx. 3-3.5 hrs) - complete health-related and demographic questionnaires, paper-and-pencil and computerized games, and a fitness test battery to assess motor skills and aerobic fitness
  • Visit #2 (approx. 3-3.5 hrs) - complete a 20-min bout of exercise and recoding of brain waves using techniques such as an electroencephalogram (EEG) while playing computer games. An EEG is a non-invasive test where your child will wear a cap that measures electrical signals.
Compensation
  • Participants will receive up to $80 for completing all of the study requirements.  Free parking is also provided.
