Brief description of study

The primary aim will be to determine if serum inflammatory biomarkers can reliably diagnose FRIs as compared to a standardized definition of FRI.

Eligibility of study

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions: extremity fracture, pelvic ring fracture, acetabulum fracture
  • Age: 18 years - 85 years
  • Gender: All

Inclusion Criteria
Fracture Related Infection group
•18 to 85 years old (inclusive) with an extremity, pelvic ring, or acetabulum fracture surgically treated with retained orthopaedic implant within the last two years
•Clinically suspected fracture-related infection

Control group
•18 to 85 years old (inclusive) with an extremity, pelvic ring, or acetabulum fracture surgically treated with retained orthopaedic implant within the last two years matched to the fracture-related infection group
•Patient undergoing index nonunion surgery
