Brief description of study
The purpose of this study is to understand the type of bacteria and viruses that grow in the middle ear. In the future, this could help ensure that the most appropriate antibiotic is prescribed for patients with ear infections.
Detailed description of study
• The parent and/or guardian will complete a brief survey regarding their child’s health history, and the study team may access their medical records.
• During surgery, a specimen will be collected from the child's ear and nose.
• These specimens will be sent to the laboratory for testing, in order to identify the types of bacteria and viruses that are present.
Eligibility of study
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:
- Conditions: Ear Infections, children, bacteria, surgery

Age: 1 years - 17 years

Gender: All
Children under the age of 18 with a planned surgery for ear infections or complications of ear infections.
Child cannot have immunodeficiencies or craniofacial anomalies
