Brief description of study
The purpose of this study is to assess the effects of skeletal trauma on the human metabolome, or the pathways by which the body creates, stores, and breaks down energy.
Detailed description of study
Additional blood will be drawn at the same time as participants' standard pre-operative and postoperative labs.
Standard of care surgical treatment will be performed.
At each post-operative visit, participants will complete two questionnaires regarding overall function and ankle function.
Researchers will review participants' medical records for this study.
Eligibility of study
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:
- Conditions: fracture, broken bone, metabolism

Age: Between 18 Years - 55 Years

Gender: All
Individuals between 18 and 55 years of age, with a scheduled surgery for a closed pilon or closed tibial plateau fracture.
Individuals with diabetes mellitus will not be eligible.
Pregnant and/or breastfeeding women will not be eligible.
