Brief description of study

The goal of this project is to obtain blood samples and test to see how each individual’s body is responding to traumatic injuries in order to better understand how to treat patients with injuries like these in the future.

Detailed description of study

Patients who are between 18 and 55 years of age and have sustained a traumatic injury are being asked to enroll in a research study where multiple blood samples will be obtained and tested to see how each individual’s body is responding to their injuries in order to better understand how to treat patients with injuries like these in the future.
Multiple blood samples will be taken throughout hospitalization; the first will occur within 6 hours of arrival to IU Health Methodist Hospital, then 6-12 hours after injury (will be at least 1 hour after the first blood draw), 18-26 hours after injury and 60-84 hours after injury. Researchers will also be closely monitoring and documenting vital signs and other medical information throughout the hospital stay or up to 28 days, whichever comes first.
