Brief description of study

The purpose of the study is to establish an accurate prevalence of sickle cell disease. We hope to give patients an accurate diagnosis using a rapid and portable diagnostic technique (HemoTypeSC) so that we can begin any needed treatments quickly.

Detailed description of study

Participants will provide a blood sample to be tested for sickle cell disease utilizing HemoTypeSC, and a second blood sample to correlate the findings of the HemoTypeSC.

Eligibility of study

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions: Sickle Cell Disease, Riley
  • Age: - 100 Years
  • Gender: All

Newborn infants at birth; children up to 12 years of age recruitied from the Health Department of OPD and outyling rural clinics; adults over 18 years of age recruited from the Casualty Department or outlying rural clinics; individuals at least 12 years of age seen at the Adult OPD or outlying rural clinics; pregnant/delivering mothers at least 18 years of age recruited from the maternity ward.
