Brief description of study
ARE YOU A VETERAN? Researchers at Indiana University School of Medicine and the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center are looking for adult veterans with and without diabetes to take part in a study examining the process of wound healing.
Skin samples of people who have type 2 diabetes will be compared to samples from nondiabetic adults to better understand how skin biopsy specimens (once removed from a patient and placed in a dish in the laboratory) activate an inflammatory response.
Your participation will help researchers to learn more about the body's cell response to skin injury-induced inflammation. which may lead to more effective treatments for wound healing, particularly in diabetic wounds, in the future.
Detailed description of study
Who is Eligible
- Adults 21 years of age or older
- Type 2 diabetes mellitus OR
- Healthy with NO diabetes
What is Involved
- Attend two study visits to the clinical research center at University Hospital in Indianapolis, IN for a blood draw and three skin punch biopsies (upper outer arm).
Compensation
- Participants will receive $100 per study visit (up to $ total for completing all of the study requirements).
