Brief description of study

ARE YOU A BREAST CANCER SURVIVOR?  HAVE YOU NOTICED ANY PROBLEMS WITH YOUR COGNITIVE FUNCTION - MEMORY, ATTENTION, ABILITY TO MULTI-TASK - AFTER COMPLETING CHEMOTHERAPY?

Researchers at Indiana University School of Medicine and the University of Pittsburgh are seeking volunteers to take part in a study looking at two telehealth-delivered therapies to treat memory and attention problems after breast cancer chemotherapy.

Your participation will help researchers determine which treatment may be more effective at improving cognitive function of breast cancer survivors post-chemottherapy.

Detailed description of study

Who is Eligible
  • Women ages 18 and older
  • Speak and read in English
  • Diagnosis of stage I, II, or III breast cancer
  • Have completed chemotherapy 1-5 years ago and are currently disease-free
  • Have concerns about attention, concentration, and memory
What is Involved
Participation includes brief screening, baseline, and post-treatment assessments, done by phone and over the internet:
  • If eligible, participants will be assigned at random, like the flip of a coin, into one of two therapy groups: a brief cognitive-behavioral skills program or a supportive approach
  • Both programs will use secure telehealth technology (can be completed from home using a computer or smartphone)
  • Therapy consists of 8 visits, 45 minutes once per week
  • One follow-up assessment will occur 6 mos. after completing therapy
