Brief description of study

ARE YOU A PHYSICALLY ACTIVE ADULT INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING IN RESEARCH?

Researchers in the School of Public Health at Indiana University - Bloomington are looking for adults to take part in a study examining cutaneous reflexes during walking.

The purpose of this study is to observe the reflexive response of ankle musculature upon non-painful stimulation of the sural nerve during a walking task. The study will utilize active individuals with and without reported ankle instability to identify possible relationships between feelings of instability and specific reflex patterns during gait.

You may qualify if you:
1.    Are a healthy adult between the ages of 18 and 30.
2.    Participate in at least 120 minutes of physical activity each week.

You DO NOT qualify if you:
1.    Have a history of fractures or surgeries in the lower leg.
2.    Have had a lower extremity injury in the last 6 weeks.
3.    Have a neuromuscular condition such as MS or Parkinson's Disease.

During data collection you will:
•    Walk on a treadmill at a speed of 2.5 mph for a total of approximately 35 minutes.
•    Undergo mild electrical stimulation in your lower leg to measure your reflexes.
