Brief description of study
Are you or someone you know the mother of a young child (12-24 months)? JOIN OUR STUDY!
Researchers at Purdue University are inviting volunteers to participate in a research project called Play and Learning Across a Year (PLAY). We want to learn more about what babies do at home.
Participation involves a one-time study visit that takes place in your own home. Mothers will interact with their child during the entire visit.
Approximately 1,200 infants and children (age 11-25 months) will participate in this project across the United States and Canada.
With your help, we hope to learn more about the factors that affect human learning and development.
Detailed description of study
What families can expect
- A home visit from a researcher (2-3 hours long)
- You and your baby will go about your daily activities
- Researcher will ask you some questions about your home, baby and family
- Researcher will video record the entire visit
- Videos will be placed in a secure video library that is available only to researchers
Compensation/benefits of participating
- You will receive a $50 gift card for your participation.
- The data we collect from your child’s participation in this research may help us to better understand how children learn in the home.
COVID-19 Considerations
Researchers abide by the following protections:
- Are fully vaccinated
- Wear a mask at all times
- Will not physically interact with you or your child
- Clean any equipment that is placed on a home surface
After each home visit, researchers sanitize anything brought into a home

Eligibility of study
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:
- Conditions: healthy,

Age: - 2 Years

Gender: All
Child criteria:
- Age 12, 18, or 24-months old + 1 month
- Born on term (37-41 weeks)
- Not diagnosed with any disability (cognitive, auditory, vision, motor)
- If child has a sibling, there must be 1 hour where only mom and target child can be observed
Mother criteria:
- Speaks English (can speak English or Spanish to their child)
- Mother is okay not wearing a mask during the visit
