Brief description of study

IU School of Medicine is researching how dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) treatments, a supplement for a hormone that your body naturally produces, affect people with asthma. Though DHEA is currently an over-the-counter medication, researchers want to pinpoint its slow-release capability to help patients with asthma.

What is Involved
·         Participation involves 11 study visits at IUPUI campus in Indianapolis, IN over the course of 6 weeks.

Study visits will include:
·         Measurements of airway function and inflammation
·         Oral capsule consumption
·         Blood collection

Compensation
·         Participants will be compensated for their time and could receive up to $1,590 for completing all study requirements

Eligibility of study

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions: asthma
  • Age: Between 18 Years - 50 Years
  • Gender: All

Inclusion criteria:
- Are 18-50 years of age
- Have asthma
- Have no known lung disease other than asthma
- Are not pregnant or breastfeeding
- Are currently a non-smoker
