Brief description of study

Do people think of you as eccentric? Do you have special abilities such as receiving special messages, or hearing things other people do not? Do you feel as if mind-reading or telepathy are real?
If any of the above statements sometimes describe you, you may be eligible for a study at Indiana University that investigates social decision-making in people with these experiences.

We are inviting adults ages 18-45 to participate.

Study participation involves attending 3 visits  to complete questionnaires, interviews, cognitive tests, and an MRI scan of your brain while you play a social decision-making game. Some visits must occur at IU Bloomington and others may have the option of occurring in Indianapolis or virtually.

Detailed description of study

What you will be asked to do:

This study occurs across 3 visits, approximately 1.5 to 4 hrs each, totaling 7-9 hrs).

  • Session 1: Complete online questionnaires either at home or in-person (~1.5-2 hours).
  • Session 2: Complete in-person clinical interviews and cognitive assessments (~2-3 hours).
  • Session 3: Complete an fMRI scan during which you will complete the social decision-making game,  followed by additional interviews (~3.5-4 hours). Sessions may be extended if multiple breaks are requested.

Visits will occur at IU Bloomington, with the possibility of visit 1 & 2 being completed in Indianapolis; visit 1 could also be virtual; visit 3 must be completed at IU Bloomington.

Compensation:

Eligible persons will be paid a flat rate of $25 for visit 1, $15/hr for visits 2 and 3, but $25/hr during the MRI scan, and a bonus of $10-45 based on in-scanner task.
