Brief description of study

ARE YOU A HEAVY DRINKER WHO HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH HEPATITIS? We need your help!

Researchersdiana University School of Medicine are looking for volunteers who drink alcohol regularly and who have been diagnosed alcoholic hepatitis to take part in a study to learn more about the effect of chronic alcohol use on liver health.

Participants will be asked to provide biological samples to be used for current and future research to help us understand specific health conditions in patients with alcoholic hepatitis or other diseases.

Detailed description of study

What Will Happen If You Participate
If you decide to take part in this research study, the general procedures will include:
1) allowing the investigators to review your medical records,
2) answering questions about you and your health,
3) completing questionnaires about alcohol use,
4) having a physical exam and blood drawn,
5) providing urine, saliva, and stool samples.

Wehat your study participation will last up to 6 months; after the 6 months, we will look in your medical records every 180 days for upve years.

Incentive/Compensation
  • Participants will receive up to a total of $475 on a prepaid card for completing all of the study requirements and visits.
  • Parking will also be provided.

Eligibility of study

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions: hepatitis
  • Age: 21 years or above
  • Gender: All

Inclusion Criteria:
  • Diagnosis of alcoholic hepatitis
  • Drink alcohol regularly (on average 21 drinks per week)
  • Be willing/able to attend study visits at IU Health Methodist, or IU Health University Hospital in Indianapolis, IN
  • Be willing/able to provide biological specimens
