Brief description of study
Have you or someone you know experienced a traumatic brain injury and are struggling to recognize and respond to how others feel?
Join our ICARE study!
Researchers at Indiana University School of Medicine are conducting a study called ICARE to find out if a new teletherapy program can help individuals better recognize and respond to others' feelings and improve their relationships after a traumatic brain injury (TBI).
We are inviting volunteers who re ages 18 and older, who have experienced a traumatic brain injury (TBI) at least 12 months ago, and who also have a friend or family member who can participate in the study along with them.
All study activities can be completed online/virtually - NO IN-PERSON VISITS ARE REQUIRED.

Detailed description of study
What Study Participation Involves
- 5 assessment visits (~90-120 minutes each) with surveys about your social skills and behaviors, mood, and relationships. Completed separately with your family member/ companion.
- 12 teletherapy sessions (~ 60-90 minutes each) that include recognizing facial expressions, imitating emotions, discussion of feelings in response to personal events, and understanding and responding to others’ thoughts and feelings.
- Your ICARE partner will be asked to join the last 5 sessions.
- Study participation will last ~9 months.

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:
- Conditions: Traumatic Brain Injury, TBI

Inclusion Criteria:
- Had a traumatic brain injury (TBI) at least 12 months ago
- Have access to a computer or tablet capable of video conference
- Have a relative, partner, or close friend with whom you interact with often who is willing to participate in the study
