Brief description of study

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the United States among men and women. Lung cancer screening using low-dose CT scan can identify lung cancer at its’ earliest stage when more curative treatment options are available. However, only 4-6% of people eligible for lung cancer screening get screened, likely due to a lack of awareness.

Researchers at Indiana University and Eskenazi Health are looking for volunteers to take part in a lung cancer screening study that is designed to raise awareness aboutung cancer screening and increase screening of eligible patients by partnering with their primary care physicians.

It is our goal to define lung cancer screening rates on our medical campus and implement patient and provider education about lung cancer screening to see if this improves lung cancer screening among individuals at high risk for the development of lung cancer.

Detailed description of study

What Happens During Study Participation
  • Potential participants will be contacted by phone by our research staff member to determine screening eligibility
  • Eligible participants will be provided information about lung cancer screening, and asked if they would like to be referred to the lung cancer screening program.
  • Interested participants will be referred to the lung cancer screening program (LCSP) and be contacted directly by the LCSP to schedule s clinic visit and low dose CT scan.
  • Participants will be emailed information, including a link to complete a pre-survey before attending their clinic appointment.
  • After completing the CT scan appointment, the study team will reach back out to participants to give a 5-minute survey to ask about their experience through the lung cancer screening process.

The CT scan is being done as part of the LCSP and is not considered a study procedure.
