Brief description of study

What is the purpose of this study?
The purpose of this study is to is to improve the way physicians and scientists understand patient and provider attitudes towards Lung Cancer Screening. Lung Cancer Screening is a very important diagnostic measure to detect early-stage Lung Cancer in patients. This study is being conducted over the course of multiple parts to best tailor this intervention towards patients that are eligible for Lung Cancer Screening but have not yet completed it.

THIS STUDY IS ENROLLING BY INVITATION ONLY - Patients who present in the Eskenazi Health Emergency Department who are determined to be eligible for lung cancer screening will be approached and offered enrollment by the research team.

Detailed description of study

What will happen during the study?

Aim 1 - Groups will be recruited to provide feedback for the development of the ED-LCS intervention. Each group will be asked to complete LungTalk and review procedures by which patients will be referred to the LCS clinic. After the participants complete LungTalk, trained research assistants will conduct semi-structured interviews to obtain their feedback about the ED-LCS intervention. Interviews with healthcare providers will be conducted after they review LungTalk and LCS clinic referral procedures. Interviews with patients will occur following the ED visit or via telephone within 1 week. They will review LungTalk during the interview. Interviews will last no longer than 1 hour.

Aim 2 - LCS eligible ED patients will be approached and offered enrollment and if agreeable for participation they will take a pre-survey regarding LCS by RAs during the index ED visit.

Aim 3 - We will invite a sub-sample of patients from the trial to participate in in-depth interviews about their experiences in the study.
