Brief description of study

The primary aim of this study is to evaluate patient knowledge regarding cardiovascular risk during pregnancy in people with CHD of reproductive age (16-49 years) following the passing of Indiana Senate Bill-1.

Secondary outcomes include evaluation between perceived and actual cardiovascular risk of pregnancy in people with CHD and discrepancy between CHD severity and SB-1 knowledge.

Detailed description of study

Subjects will be enrolled from respective outpatient CHD centers at Methodist and Riley Children’s Hospital to complete the survey. Once the subjects have completed the survey their participation in the study is completed.  

Eligibility of study

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions: Congenital Heart Disease
  • Age: Between 16 Years - 49 Years
  • Gender: Female

Inclusion Criteria:
  • Ages 16 to 49 years
  • Confirmed CHD
  • Rare cardiovascular diseases seen and/or referred to the Adult Congenital Clinic or the Pediatric Cardiology Center (connective tissue disorders, congenital cardiomyopathies, etc…)
  • A person that is capable of carrying a pregnancy to term
Exclusion Criteria:

• Patients were excluded if their treating Adult Congenital Heart Disease physician deemed them to have significant mental impairment, such that the patient would be unable to understand the risks and benefits of the study and proved informed consent.6 
• Patients unable to read and/or understand English language
• Acquired heart disease
