Brief description of study
The purpose of this study is to test a home-based walking program in patients with newly diagnosed pulmonary embolism (PE) and at least two concurrent risk factors. We plan to track physical activity (including number of steps and minutes spent active) with the goal of better understanding how to motivate patients to increase walking behavior after PE.
Detailed description of study
Patients meeting enrollment criteria and consenting to study participation will view an educational video at time of enrollment instructing patients on the negative impact of MetS in PE and the benefits of walking. They will receive an exercise “prescription” outlining the goal of 150 minutes of walking per week and weekly motivational text messaging to encourage continued walking. Participants will be given a Fitbit Charge 5 to record physical activity and will be monitored for 3 months following PE. Researchers will measure BMI and have participants complete a survey after 3 months.
