Overview

This study plans to learn more about upper airway disease and function. We are looking for participants who are already undergoing head or neck procedures to give a sample of sinus, tongue, or pharynx, as well as a blood sample and/or a nasal swab. We would like to store and use these samples for future research.  We plan to analyze these samples to better understand disease related to the sinuses, nose, mouth, throat and/or lungs. Outside facilities may request de-identified samples as well.

Description

Participants will be asked to give one or more of the following samples:  nasal swab or brushing, nasal mucus collection, blood draw (up to 50mL or 10 teaspoons), extra sinonasal tissue, extra tongue tissue, or extra pharyngeal tissue.  Samples will be collected during clinical procedures to help reduce the risk of pain.  Participants will not be asked to make any additional visits because of this research.
Participants will be asked to complete a short questionnaire about their sinus issues and smoking history. This is completely voluntary but if you do decide to complete the questionnaire, we ask that you fill it as accurately as you can.
