Brief description of study
What is this study about?
The purpose of this study is to explore how people's openness to social support influences their use of social support to improve how they take their prescribed medications to manage their diabetes.
Who can take part?
English-speaking adults ≥18 years old with a confirmed medical diagnosis of type 2 diabetes who have been prescribed at least one oral anti-diabetes medication.
Detailed description of study
What happens during the study?
- Volunteers will participate in a one-time interview lasting approximately 1 hour.
- Interviews will be conducted either in person or over phone or Microsoft teams, depending on the participant's preference (participants who decide to conduct the interviews in person will be asked to come to IU School of Nursing building for the interview).
- During this interview, questions will be asked about their diagnosis of type 2 diabetes mellitus, their use of social support to manage this condition, and how their openness to social support influences their use of social support to take their medications as prescribed by their healthcare provider
Incentive/compensation
- Participants who decide to participate in the study and complete the interview will be given a one-time $20 Amazon gift card.

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:
- Conditions: type 2 diabetes

Inclusion Criteria:
- English-speaking
- Have been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes
- Have been prescribed anti-diabetes medications
Exclusion Criteria:
- Any cognitive impairment
- Family members of participants in study
