Brief description of study
Diagnosis of cleft lip and/or cleft palate (CLP) can be made using ultrasound. This diagnosis can be a shock for both parents, especially the expecting mother, and can cause spiritual distress. We are asking parents who are expecting a baby with cleft diagnosis to complete a survey about spiritual distress and mental health. We hope that the information gathered through this research project will help help us better understand what parents are going through, and as a result, improve the care we provide both now and in the future.
THIS STUDY IS ENROLLING BY INVITATION ONLY - The Riley Cleft and Craniofacial (CCF) team routinely receives referrals for expectant parents of cleft lip or palate baby. Expecting parents (ages 18 and older) who are scheduled to have a prenatal consultation with the CCF team will be identified from the CCF team’s referral list and contacted by the research team about study participation.
