Brief description of study
Why is this study being done?
This research is being done so that we can learn more about helping Black and African-American women who want to improve their diabetes self-care behaviors. Specifically, we are testing a treatment called Diabetes Tune-Up Group. You can choose to complete the treatment either online or in person.
Who can take part in this study?
Women (ages 21 and older) who identify as Black or African-American, are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and are interested in improving diabetes self-care behaviors.
Detailed description of study
What will happen during the study?
- As part of the study, participants will take part in 4 assessments and participate in the study treatment.
- The assessments will include a fingerstick A1c test, an online questionnaire, and wearing a Freestyle Libre continuous glucose monitor for 2 weeks.
- The treatment will consist of 6 weekly group-based sessions that will take place either online or in person, at the participant’s choosing. Participants will also wear the Freestyle Libre during the treatment period.

Compensation
- Participants can earn up to $145 in gift cards for completing all portions of the study.

Eligibility of study
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:
- Conditions: Type 2 diabetes

Age: Between 21 Years - 100 Years

Gender: Female
Inclusion Criteria:
- Age ≥ 21 years
- Self-identified Black or African American female
- Type 2 diabetes diagnosis ≥ 1 year
- A1c ≥ 7.0% in the past year per EMR or patient report
- DDS-17 score ≥ 2.0 at screening
- Active email address
Exclusion Criteria:
- Limited English language proficiency
- Presence of serious mental health disorder (e.g., psychotic disorders or severe mood disorders with suicidal ideation)
- Diagnosis of a major acute medical condition (e.g., myocardial infarction, stroke, cardiac rehabilitation, stage 3 or stage 4 cancer diagnoses) within the last three months
- Initiation of new medical treatment regimens (e.g., chemotherapy) for acute medical diagnoses that would require the patient’s primary attention
