Brief description of study
Why is this study being done?
Cardiokidney Metabolic Syndrome or CKM is a new syndrome recognized by the American Heart Association and occurs when an individual has a combination of conditions which includes being overweight, in addition to having metabolic risk factors (hypertriglyceridemia [≥135 mg/dL], hypertension, metabolic syndrome, diabetes), or chronic kidney disease.
Researchers at Indiana University are conducting a study to learn more about how to promote exercise among individuals with CKM.
CKM may have the potential to be reversed by participating in regular exercise. Findings from this study will help us understand physical activity levels among individuals with CKM, with the goal of designing an effective exercise program for those individuals.
Who can take part?
Adults (ages 18 and older) who are at risk of developing Cardiokidney Metabolic Syndrome (CKM).
Detailed description of study
What will happen during the study?
- You will complete two online multiple-choice surveys (10 min. each) 4 weeks apart.
- You will also be asked to wear a physical activity tracker for two weeks; at the start of the study and after 4 weeks.
- You may receive/return the activity tracker by mail or arrangements can be made with the study staff to pick up/drop off the activity tracker at a location that is convenient to you.
**You will not be asked to engage in physical activity, rather we just want to understand your current physical activity levels. This data gathered from your activity tracker will help us design the CKM exercise program.
Incentive/compensation
- You will receive compensation for completing all of the study requirements.
