Brief description of study

What is the purpose of this study?
The purpose of this study is to collect tissue from regions of the developing brain that are thought to be the origin of new brain cells. We would like to understand how neurons and glia are formed from cells in this region of the human brain and how they may contribute to disease.

THIS STUDY IS ENROLLING BY INVITATION ONLY - Potential participants will be identified by the treating physician/investigator and/or by use of eMAR/surgery schedule/clinic schedule. Initial contact will be the approach for consent and will take place in the clinic, hospital room, pre-operative area, or surgery waiting area. When in-person consent is not possible, they will be contacted by phone.

Detailed description of study

What will happen during the study?
  • Tissue that is removed during patients' scheduled surgery will be studied for research purposes.
  • This tissue is being removed as part of surgery and would be removed whether or not patients choose to be in this study.
  • No extra tissue is removed as part of this study.
  • Researchers will also collect demographic information and information related to diagnosis from patient medical record.
  • Tissue will be collected once, but your medical record may be accessed to review follow-up visits related to this diagnosis.
