Brief description of study
Why is this study being done?
The purpose of this study is to better understand how our ears and brains help us perceive the world around us. In particular, we are interested in understanding how our senses allow us to have conversations in complex environments such as crowded restaurants and busy streets. We are collecting hearing information from a large number of participants so that we can pinpoint what factors contribute to individual differences in hearing ability.
Who can take part?
ANYONE who is 18 years of age or older, regardless of health condition, is invited to participate.
Detailed description of study
What will happen during the study?
- Attend at least 1 study visit to one of our labs (either at Indianapolis or Purdue location) for hearing testing. The visit is usually around 1 hour.
- If more than one study visit is needed to complete all components of the study, the researcher working with you will explain the number of visits that would be needed and the expected duration of each.
- Study testing procedures may be done on the same day, or may be spread out over different days.
- You will also be asked to complete surveys and computer-based listening tasks online at home.
We have two lab locations:
Lab 1: The AMP @ 16Tech Suite H120 - 1220 Waterway Blvd, Indianapolis, IN 46202.
Lab2: Lyles-Porter Hall, Room 3069 - 715 Clinic Drive, West Lafayette, IN 47907.
Incentive/compensation
- You will receive $12/hour for your participation in the study.
