High School Teens (Ages 14-18) Needed for Political Engagement and Well-being Study (RYSE Well Study)

Brief description of study
Why is this study being done?
The goal of this study is to learn about rural youth's civic and political engagement and its connection to their well-being.
Who can take part?
Teens (ages 14-18) who are currently in high school, are English-speaking, and live in a rural Indiana town.
The entire study can be completed online.
COMPENSATION WILL BE PROVIDED.
Detailed description of study
What will happen during the study?
- If you're interested in participating, we'll ask you to complete a virtual (online) interview in September or October.
- The virtual interview will be conducted over zoom and will take approximately 60 minutes (it will include questions on your experiences in school and in your community).
- You will complete daily online surveys (10 min. each) during election week (November 3rd – November 9th)
- During that same week (each day for five days), you will be asked to donate three saliva (spit) samples; 1 – right after you wake up, 2 – 30 minutes later, and 3 – right before going to bed.
- The saliva samples will be use to measure a stress hormone called cortisol.
- All study materials will be mailed to you and returned via mail (no in-person study visits are required).
Incentive/compensation
- You will be paid for completing the study tasks.

The study is being conducted by Elena Maker Castro, Ph.D. at Bates College and Natasha Chaku, Ph.D. at Indiana University.

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

- Must be living in a rural Indiana area (<2500 population)
