Brief description of study

Why is this study being done?

Researchers at Purdue University are recruiting for a study that examines how thinking and language change after having a stroke or other brain injury. We are investigating how different types of attention contribute to producing and understanding sentences.  

Who can take part?

Adults (ages 18 or older) who have aphasia following a stroke or other brain injury (TBI, viral infection, tumor, etc.)

Detailed description of study

What is involved?

  • Attend 2 study visits (either at Purdue University West Lafayette Campus or Purdue Satellite office in Indianapolis) for a total of 4-6 hours.
  • During the study visits, you will be asked to listen and look at stimuli on the computer and make decisions about what you see and hear.
  • Visits will be scheduled within a week of each other and each session will last about 2-3 hours.  

Incentive/compensation

  • You will receive $20/hr for your time.

Eligibility of study

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions: Aphasia, Stroke, Traumatic Brain Injury, TBI
  • Age: Between 18 Years - 100 Years
  • Gender: All

Inclusion Criteria:

  • 18 years or older
  • Aphasia following a stroke or other brain injury (TBI, viral infection, tumor)

Exclusion Criteria:

  • History of other neurological disease (Parkinson’s, dementia, etc.)
  • History of radiation or chemotherapy in the past 12 months
