Brief description of study

The purpose of this research study is to learn more about the bacteria in the intestines and to determine how some bacteria can contribute to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

The purpose of this research study is to learn more about the bacteria in the intestines and to determine how some bacteria can contribute to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

Eligibility of study

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions: inflammatory bowel disease
  • Age: 18 years - 70 years
  • Gender: All

Inclusion Criteria
Individuals (male or female) diagnosed with CD or UC using clinical standard criteria
At least 18 years of age and not older than 70 years
Can understand and sign informed consent
Willing to provide clinical data at baseline and follow-up visits via web-based questionnaires and 4 stool specimens in 18 months? time period or more often in case of flares.
Fluent in English
Internet access and willing to complete web-based questionnaires
Co-inhabitant since the last 6 months
Willing to provide stool specimen at a single time point
Fluent in English
Willing to provide stool specimen at a single time point
Fluent in English
Exclusion Criteria
Existing pregnancy or lactation
Patients with indeterminate colitis
Patients with a stoma, pouch or ileo-rectal anastomosis
Known Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C or HIV infection
Existing pregnancy or lactation
Diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease
Known Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C or HIV infection
Existing pregnancy or lactation
Known ulcerative colitis or Crohn?s disease
Known Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C or HIV infection
Resective surgery of parts of the small bowel or colon
