Brief description of study
Why is this study being done?
The purpose of this study is to explore and understand the effect emerging sexual behaviors may have on brain health through sensitive non-invasive laboratory testing. Brain health will be evaluated by looking at biomarkers found in blood and using neuro-imaging techniques.
Who can take part?
Women (biological sex assigned at birth is female), ages 18-30, who are currently sexually active.
Detailed description of study
What will happen during the study?
- As a participant, you will attend one brief informed consent and screening visit online via Zoom (approx. 30 min).
- If you are eligible and choose to participate, you will attend 3 in-person study appointments (approx. 2 hrs each; up to 6 hrs total) on IU Bloomington campus.
- Your participation will last approx. 1-3 months.
Study visits will involve the following:
- Completing questionnaires about demographics, health, behaviors and sexual activity
- Participating in brief oculomotor testing (we will do this test by moving a target letter closer and closer to your face until you tell the researcher it has doubled)
- Undergoing MRI scans
- Providing blood samples
Incentive/compensation
- You will receive up to $180 (in the form of a VISA gift card) for completing all of the study requirements.
