Brief description of study
JOIN the study!
The purpose of this study is to try out a new way of teaching kids and parents ways to relax and sleep skills to see if it helps youth with sleep and well-being.
The study tasks can be completed entirely online (NO in-person visits required).
Who can take part?
Youth (ages 11-13) who are experiencing mild stress symptoms and a parent. In order to be eligible, parents/caregivers and children must both participate in the research study.
Detailed description of study
What will happen during the study?
- Parents and youth will answer some questions at three different points during the 4-month program.
- Parents and youth will attend online training sessions together about ways to relax and sleep skills (1 hour each week for 8 weeks).
- These training sessions will be fun and include group discussions and a workbook with parent/youth activities.
- During these group sessions, parents and children will learn how to work together on a child's ways to relax and sleep.
Incentive/compensation
- Each family (youth and parent pair) will receive up to $200 for completing all of the study requirements.

Eligibility of study
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:
- Conditions: all

Age: 11 years - 13 years

Gender: All
- Has mild stress symptoms
- Able to read, speak, and understand English
- Has a parent willing to join the study with them
- Diagnosis with a mental health condition (such as depression, anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder, etc)
- Diagnosis with a sleep disorder (such as sleep apnea)
- Taking medications that alter mood (such as fluoxetine)
- Family plan to move out of Indiana within 4 months
Parent Inclusion Criteria:
- At least 18 years of age
- Living in Indiana
- Self-reported as legal guardian of youth
- Able to read, speak, and understand English
Parent Exclusion Criteria:
- Plan to move from Indiana within 4 months
