Brief description of study

What is the purpose of this study?
The purpose of this study is to look at the effect of oxygen on tumor tissue and cerebrospinal fluid(CSF). Tissue in your body is exposed to less oxygen than is in the air around you. Traditional studies use cells and tissue kept in room air. In this study, we want to mimic what is happening in your body to study the effect on the tumor’s biology.

THIS STUDY IS ENROLLING BY INVITATION ONLY - Consistent with most oncology trials, patients are not actively “recruited,” but are screened by their physician for appropriate clinical trial(s) at the time of their routine clinic visit. Occasionally, a patient may be a self-referral or physician referral, but are still screened for appropriate clinical trials at the time of their routine clinic visit. PI and staff may send copies of relevant consent forms to these patients to look over prior to actually consenting or enrolling them. This may take place at the patient's visit at which the consent is presented or the patient's next visit to the outpatient hematology/oncology clinic.

Detailed description of study

What will happen during the study?

Tissue and/or fluid specimens will be collected during routine diagnostic or therapeutic procedures. The type of tissue and/or fluid specimen collected will depend on the type of procedure that is being performed at the time of study entry. No patient will undergo surgery solely for the purpose of tissue and/or fluid collection for this study. Tissue and/or fluid collection will not increase the morbidity, mortality, or duration of the original procedure, nor will the patient incur any cost.

Eligibility of study

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions: Brain tumor, Intracranial Malignancy, Cancer
  • Age: 18 years or above
  • Gender: All

Inclusion criteria:

  • Consent to and eligible for tissue collection and greater than or equal to 18 years of age
  • Have a history of or be suspected of having an intracranial malignancy or related disorder with an estimated tumor size based on the best available imaging of at least 1 cm3 or evidence of cerebrospinal involvement with tumor spread
  • Be able to donate a biofluid and/or tissue sample (if applicable) without compromising the current health status of the subject or compromising the availability of tissue for diagnosis and clinical care
  • Planned procedure including surgical excision of the known or suspected malignancy, diagnostic or therapeutic removal of cerebrospinal fluid
