Brief description of study

What is the purpose of this study?

We hypothesize that decreased travel time to receive perioperative bariatric surgery care will increase patient satisfaction and enrollment into the Indiana University Health bariatric surgery program. Improved patient satisfaction may also improve patient compliance and surgical outcomes.

Goals:

  1. Assess patient satisfaction with the IUH West bariatric surgery outreach clinic as compared to those non-local patients traveling to IUH North hospital
  2. Examine likelihood of enrollment in the bariatric surgery program among Western Indiana patients if no outreach clinic were available.
  3. Evaluate perioperative outcomes including weight loss and complications among patients serviced at the IUH West bariatric surgery clinic as compared to those non-locals receiving care at IUH North Hospital.
  4. Assess the need to offer all perioperative services at IUH West Hospital, including surgery, preoperative testing (PAT), APP visits, psychology visit, all supervised weight loss (SWL) visits. Compare patient satisfaction scores before and after IUH West Hospital offers these services
THIS STUDY IS ENROLLING BY INVITATION ONLY - Patients presenting for final pre-operative visit for bariatric procedure will be screened by the study team for inclusion and exclusion criteria prior to the visit.

Detailed description of study

What will happen during the study?

After agreeing to be in the study, patients will complete a Likert scale survey that will also include questions regarding their treatment satisfaction. These surveys will be administered at the final pre-op visit, and the one month post-op visit. Patients will complete the same survey at each visit to see if their answers change over time.
