Brief description of study
Do you have liver damage because of excessive alcohol use? Join our study!
Researchers at the Indiana University School of Medicine are looking for adult volunteers to take part in a study looking at the link between heavy drinking and liver disease.
Your participation may help researchers to gain knowledge that may lead to better treatment for alcohol use liver damage.
Detailed description of study
What Happens During Study Participation
Participants will be asked to attend up to 20 study visits over 14 months at University Hospital in Indianapolis.
Study visits will include the following:
- Questionnaires about your health history
- ECG (electrical tracing of your heart)
- Collection of blood and urine samples
- FibroScan (like an ultrasound of your liver)
- MRI scan (non-invasive test that takes pictures of your liver)
Compensation:
- Participants will receive $200 after each completed on-site visit (up to $4,600 for completing all of the study requirements) via a re-loadable payment card and a parking pass.
Eligibility of study
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:
- Conditions: Alcohol-Associated Liver Disease, ALD

Age: 18 years - 75 years

Gender: All
Inclusion Criteria:
- age: 18-75 years
- overweight
- have had an average of 3+ drinks every day for the past year
Exclusion Criteria:
- diabetes
- certain other causes of liver disease
- diabetes
