Brief description of study
Researchers at Indiana University (IU) are studying the impacts of childhood DCS involvement and parent substance use in young adults.
The long-term goal is to improve outcomes for families involved in the child welfare system who are struggling with alcohol or drug use.
We are looking for individuals, ages 18-24 years old, who were involved in Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS) as a child or teen due to their parent or caregiver’s substance use.
Detailed description of study
- You will be asked to participate in a one-time, 30-45 minute online interview over Zoom. You will be required to be on video for the duration of the interview.
- The interview will involve discussing your experience with DCS and with parent(s) who used alcohol/drugs.
- You will receive compensation for your time.
We reserve the right to dismiss you from the study and you will not be compensated for participation if you falsify your identify and/or information in order to qualify for our study.

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

Inclusion Criteria:
- 18-24 years old
- Indiana DCS involvement as a child/adolescent
- Experience with parents who use substances
Exclusion Criteria:
- DCS involvement outside of Indiana
- DCS cases without a concern for parental substance use
