Living Well With HIV Research Study
Samir Gupta, MD
Brief description of study
Are you living with HIV and experiencing depression? Living with HIV can affect many parts of life, including your emotional and physical health. Researchers at Indiana University want to learn whether treating depression without medication may help improve mood and support healthier blood sugar levels.
You may qualify to join this study if you are 18 years of age or older, are diagnosed with HIV, and have been taking HIV medication for at least 6 months.
By taking part, you can help researchers better understand the connection between mood, HIV, and overall health. What researchers learn may help improve care and wellness for people living with HIV in the future.
Detailed description of study
What will I be asked to do?
After completing an in-person screening visit, participants will be assigned by chance (like flipping a coin) to one of two groups:
- Group 1: You will use Good Days Ahead, an online program designed to help with depression.
- Group 2: You will receive education about depression and have short check-ins about your symptoms.
Both groups are an important part of helping researchers learn more about mood and health.
The study lasts 1 year and includes 4 in-person visits at the Indiana CTSI Clinical Research Center located at IU Health University Hospital in Indianapolis, iN.
What Happens During Study Visits?
Study visits last about 1 to 2.5 hours and may include:
- Vital signs (such as blood pressure and heart rate)
- Blood draws
- Urine samples
- Stool samples
For 3 of the 4 visits, blood samples will be collected after fasting. A meal will be provided after your blood draw is completed.
Urine and stool samples are self-collected. Stool samples may be collected at home and brought to your study visit.
Compensation:
- Participants can receive up to $475 for completing all four study visits.
- Parking costs related to study visits will also be covered by the study team.
