Unraveling the Immunological Triggers of Acute Cellular Rejection in Pediatric Liver Transplantation.
Investigating Immune Responses in Children After Liver Transplant
Abby Russi
Primary Investigator
Brief description of study
The proposed project is designed to prospectively collect blood and tissue from patients who have received a liver transplant (for any reason) to capture the immunoceullar landscape in the periphery preceding and target tissue during acute cellular rejection. It is a longitudinal collection of clinical data without study interventions.
Detailed description of study
The proposed project is designed to prospectively collect blood and tissue from patients who have received a liver transplant (for any reason) to capture the immunoceullar landscape in the periphery preceding and target tissue during acute cellular rejection. It is a longitudinal collection of clinical data without study interventions.
Blood samples will be collected during routine lab draw at either Riley Hospital for Children, or at a local lab near their home. Liver tissue will be collected during a standard of care liver biopsy in the Interventional Radiology suites located in the Main OR area of Riley Hospital for Children.
Specific Aim 1: To investigate the peripheral immunocellular landscape preceding acute cellular rejection.
Specific Aim 2: To interrogate how the preceding peripheral immunocellular signature compares to the cellular landscape in the allograft at time of acute cellular rejection.
Eligibility of study
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:
- Conditions: Liver transplant
-
Age: 19 years or below
-
Gender: All
Inclusion criteria:
Individuals less than 20 years of age who undergo a liver transplant at Riley Hospital for Children for any reason.
This study investigates the immune responses in children who have had a liver transplant. The purpose is to understand how the body's immune system acts before and during a problem called acute cellular rejection, which can happen after a transplant. Acute cellular rejection is when the body's immune system attacks the transplanted liver. This study will collect blood and liver tissue samples to learn more about this process.
Blood samples will be taken during regular lab visits either at Riley Hospital for Children or a local lab. Liver tissue samples will be collected during a regular liver biopsy procedure at Riley Hospital. The study will not change any treatments and is focused on gathering information.
- Who can participate: Children under 20 years old who have had a liver transplant at Riley Hospital for Children can participate. Participation is by invitation only.
- Study details: Participants will provide blood samples during routine lab visits and liver tissue samples during standard biopsy procedures. The study does not involve any changes to the usual treatment.
