Brief description of study

Join a short, one-visit dental study!  Your experience can improve dental care for adults and help us learn why teeth become worn or sensitive over time.

We’re doing a study to learn how common tooth wear and tooth sensitivity are in adults across the U.S. We’ll also check for receding gums and other small changes around the teeth, and compare our results with studies from other countries.

We are looking for adults (ages 18+), in generally good health, to complete a short questionnaire, have their teeth scanned, and take a simple tooth-sensitivity test during a single study visit.

Detailed description of study

Taking part in this study includes one visit that lasts about 30 minutes. During this visit, we will check to see if you qualify.

If you are eligible and decide to continue, you will be asked to do the following during the same visit:

  • Answer two short questionnaires with help from a study team member. These questions are about your dental care habits, your diet, and whether your teeth feel sensitive. (About 5 minutes)
  • Brush your teeth with water if plaque is present.
  • Have your teeth scanned using a small digital camera placed inside your mouth. (About 5 minutes)
  • Have a tooth-sensitivity test, where the study dentist gently blows air on your teeth. This test will be video recorded, and your face will be visible in the video. (About 5 minutes)

You will receive a $10 payment card if you complete the screening but do not qualify.  If you do qualify and take part in the study, your payment will increase to a total of $50.
