Brief description of study

Join a research study for healthy adults 60 and older and help improve care for future generations.
 
As we get older, our bodies can feel pain in different ways. But right now, we do not fully understand how healthy older adults experience pain.
 

Researchers at the Indiana University School of Nursing are inviting adults ages 60 and older to take part in a study to learn more about what “typical” pain responses look like in healthy older adults.

Your participation could help improve how pain is studied and treated for older adults in the future.

Detailed description of study

Your participation will involve:

1.) Completing a brief screening call to determine if you are eligible.

2.) If you join the study, you will be scheduled for one in-person study visit (approx. 2 hrs) at Indiana University School of Nursing or the Clinical Research Center rooms at IU Health or the Neuroscience center. 

During the study visit, you will:

  • Answer questions about your health and any pain you may feel
  • Take part in safe, controlled sensory tests (these measure how your body reacts to different feelings, like touch or mild discomfort)

The study team will guide you through everything step by step.

You will not receive the results of any of these tests or procedures because they are being conducted only for research purposes only.

As a thank you for your time, you will receive a a $10 gift card for completing in-person pre-screening and an additional $50 gift card after completing the surveys and tests, for a total of $60.  Fraudulent, duplicate or bot-generated responses will not be paid.

Eligibility of study

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions: Healthy
  • Age: 60 years or above
  • Gender: All

Inclusion Criteria

  • aged ≥ 60 years
  • overall good health
  • willing to travel to the Indiana University School of Nursing in Indianapolis for a study visit

Exclusion Criteria

  • diagnosis of a chronic pain disorder
  • other medical conditions or comorbidities which, in the opinion of the Investigator, would interfere with safety, study compliance or data interpretation.
