Brief description of study
Does more than one member of your family have Alzheimer’s disease or serious memory loss? Your family can be an essential part of Alzheimer's disease research by participating in the NCRAD study.
What is this study about?
The National Cell Repository for Alzheimer’s Disease (NCRAD) is a research project being conducted at the Indiana University School of Medicine. The goal of NCRAD is to collect blood samples which can be used for research.
The clinical information and biological samples that are collected as part of this study will be used to facilitate studies aimed at locating and identifying factors contributing to dementia and related diseases. In addition, the clinical information and biological samples may also be used to study other diseases.
Our hope is that through the efforts of families with memory loss, we will soon unravel the mystery of conditionslike Alzheimer’s disease. Researchers are actively attempting to understand the genetics of familial conditions having serious memory loss. They are moving rapidly toward this goal, learning more every day.
Who can take part?
If there are two or more blood- related individuals in your family who are living and have symptoms of memory loss, researchers may be very interested in studying your family.
Detailed description of study
What does this study involve?
- As part of your participation in this project, you may be asked to complete a Family History Questionnaire.
- You or your family members may also be asked to donate samples of blood which will be used to obtain DNA and cells, the material that is used for genetic research.
- In addition, medical records or a physical examination may be helpful to document symptoms of memory loss in those who are affected.
Additional information
The study is being conducted by Dr. Tatiana Faroud of the Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics, Indiana University School of Medicine.
