Brief description of study

The goal of this project is to establish standardized procedures for the creation of an on-site biorepository. At present, biological specimens from Methodist Hospital are being collected for research under IRB Protocol #9401-17, and are collected by and stored at Indiana University Hospital. Our desire is to expand the variety and quantity of biospecimens available to researchers by creating a centralized tissue bank housed within Methodist Hospital and its designated sites of storage.  The purpose of this effort is to supply qualified researchers with biological specimens from a wide variety of patients so that they can help find the cause of different diseases.
 
THIS STUDY IS ENROLLING BY INVITATION ONLY - Recruitment for the study will be initiated through reviews of the daily surgical schedules to identify patients whose surgical procedures match current research/storage demands. Tissue need will be determined by the Principal Investigator, and as appropriate, the ECRO Biorepository Steering Committee.  Subject eligibility will be decided in part by the Principle Investigator and co-investigators, who will make determinations on tissue recovery deemed necessary for future use, and in part by the ECRO Biorepository Steering Committee who will evaluate research proposals requesting outsized specimens or the ethical questions raised in their acquisition/distribution. In some cases non-surgical specimens and fluids may be obtained using the same eligibility criteria applied to surgical specimens.

Detailed description of study

Biological fluids (i.e. blood, urine, saliva) and other biological samples (i.e. hair follicles, nail clippings) may be collected purely for research upon consent from the patient. Additional consent will be sought from the patient concerning contact for additional information or specimen collection in the future.

  • Age: 18 years - 100 years
  • Gender: All

The purpose of this study is to investigate the development of a biorepository at Methodist Hospital to store biological specimens. A biorepository is a place where biological samples, like tissues and fluids, are kept for research. This study aims to gather and store various biological samples from patients to help researchers understand different diseases better.

In this study, biological fluids such as blood, urine, and saliva, as well as samples like hair and nails, may be collected. These samples are collected with the patient's consent for research purposes. Patients may also be asked for permission to be contacted in the future for more information or to provide additional samples.

  • Study details: Participants will provide consent for the collection of biological samples like blood and saliva. They may also be contacted in the future for more samples or information.
