Brief description of study
We’re looking for people who wear upper dentures to join a group that may be invited to take part in future studies about denture adhesive products. Your participation can help make denture products better for everyone.
To join, you’ll need to attend a screening visit at the Oral Health Research Institute in Indianapolis, IN so we can make sure your upper denture and overall health meet the study’s needs.
Individuals who are 18 years of age or older, wear a full or partical set of dentures, and are interested in dental research are invited to take part.
Detailed description of study
Our goal is to identify people who meet basic requirements to participate in denture studies. All study visits take place in person at the Oral Health Research Institute (OHRI) in Indianapolis, IN.
If you’re interested, you’ll first have a short phone call to see if you meet the basic study requirements. Then, you’ll be invited to come to the OHRI clinic without denture adhesive on your upper denture for a screening visit.
At this visit:
- You’ll review and sign consent and health information forms.
- A study dentist will do a quick check of your mouth and denture.
- If you qualify, we’ll ask a few questions about your medical history and any medications you take.
- The dentist will then do a more detailed exam and review your health information with you.
- You’ll complete a short questionnaire about dry mouth.
- If everything looks good, we’ll measure how well your upper denture fits and stays in place.
- People who qualify may be invited to take part in future denture studies. In some studies, we test how well denture adhesives work using a small device that measures how strongly the denture sticks in place when you bite down. Technicians who use this device need training and practice, and we may ask members of this group to help by allowing trainees to take a few test measurements during training sessions.
- You’ll receive $30 for completing the screening visit.
Eligibility of study
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:
- Conditions: Healthy, Dentures

Inclusion Criteria
1. In good general health
2. Wears a well fitting upper denture
Exclusion Criteria
1. Women who are known to be pregnant or who are intending to become pregnant over the du-ration of future studies.
2. Women who are breast-feeding.
3. Dental health issues, such as pre-existing oral irritations, recent (within 30 days) gingival/oral surgery, or any clinically significant or relevant oral abnormality.
4. Daily doses of medication that might interfere with ability to perform future studies according to protocol (as determined by the Investigator)
5. Taking or have taken a bisphosphonate drug (i.e., Fosamax®, Actonel®, Boniva®) for treatment of osteoporosis
6. Known or suspected intolerance or hypersensitivity to the denture adhesives or any of their stated ingredients.
7. An oral finding, which in the opinion of the investigator would preclude participation in future studies.
8. Recent history (within the last year) of alcohol or other substance abuse.
9. An employee of the Oral Health Research Institute (directly working in the panel development) or a member of their immediate family.
10. Unwilling to refrain from smoking, including e-cigarettes and the use of chewing tobacco or other tobacco products for the duration of screening and each treatment day (12-14 hours).
11. History of drug or alcohol abuse (within the last year).
