Brief description of study

The purpose of this study is to examine how the immune system in humans works to prevent infections and disease. The immune system plays a critical role in preventing infections and tumor development, yet defects in the immune system can lead to disease. This research is focused on understanding inflammatory disease that affects millions of Americans in diseases including asthma, autoimmune disease and infection with pathogens.

Detailed description of study

To understand the immune response in humans, we require primary human immune cells and sera from human blood for our research. Human sera is examined for levels of serum cytokines. Immune cells are isolated for functional assays and in vitro manipulation of gene expression. Thus, this study requires drawing blood from healthy human volunteers or obtaining blood or leuko-packs from a commercial source of anonymously provided volunteers.

Eligibility of study

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions: Healthy
  • Age: 3 years - 100 years
  • Gender: All

Inclusion Criteria
Healthy human volunteers

Exclusion Criteria
Young children under two years of age will not be recruited for this study

This study investigates how the immune system works to prevent infections and diseases. The immune system is important for stopping infections and tumors, but problems with it can cause diseases like asthma, autoimmune diseases, and infections. The study aims to understand these inflammatory diseases better.

In this study, researchers will collect blood from healthy volunteers to examine immune cells and blood serum. They will look at the levels of certain proteins in the blood and study how immune cells work and change. This involves taking blood samples and analyzing them in the lab.

  • Who can participate: Healthy human volunteers are eligible, except for young children under two years of age.
  • Study details: Participants will have their blood drawn for research purposes. The study involves analyzing blood serum and immune cells. Blood samples may be used for various laboratory tests.
